171210 Rebuilding Starkid’s Toilets and Showers

Posted on May 21, 2018 by tsudra in Assistance to very poor schools, School Infrastructure, Students' welfare

When in November 2017 the  cement slab over the Starkid latrines has colapsed, it became a real hygiene  emergency for 170 pupils of Starkid School, and even worse for 70 among them who are borders at the Rescue Centre (orphanage).  Emergency funding came mainly from Watu Kwa Watu friends in Poland – from a group of professors of the University of Warsaw, and from the Watu friend in Poznan with Foundation Krzysiek Pomaga, as well as privately from the Trustees. Given the soil conditions, lack of free land, and the proximity of the 90% filled-in latrine pits, the only solution was to build the new waterborne and shower block, what was made possible by the new sewer collector just being built by the City passing in front of Starkid ground. All that was quickly built

After demolition of old latrine structures.
Walls of new latrines and shower cabins arw coming up

Flushable WC
Shower cabin with water outlet. Proper fixtures will come when the new funds will become available

and Starkid has now a new waterborne sanitary block, without any installations or tiling, but fully functional
