Watu Kwa Watu has, and earlier the Trustees in their individual capacity have been assisting the family Onyango in Western Kenya (name changed to protect privacy) for several years in educational cost and in starting a small family shop/kiosk. Funding came from our family and our friends in USA, Cambodia and Poland. At the time of writing this note (December 2014), one of the girls has her schooling costs funded by Justyna from Poland, and two others by Kathryn from USA.
One tragedy has occurred few months ago: their very modest house burned completely down and all their property got lost, including all school books, clothing etc. The house is currently being rebuild as a self-help effort of the family. Watu Kwa Watu is assisting with costs of the materials and specialised labour. Kathryn is generously assisting with about 20% of the cost. Cement floors have been recently put in the rooms. Strengthening with the layer of cement of the soil walls is in process now (May 2015). We are looking forward to possible additional contributions of a total of approximately US$ 1500 for the house and latrine and another 500 for basic furniture, mattresses, bed linen, kitchen ware etc
