The Overseers Education Centre (school) is located at the edge of the Kangemi slum, just at the border with Kawangware slum. It has about 150 children. Half of them go to kindergarten, the rest to the Primary. They have 10 teachers. Each gets about 3000 Ksh a month. The school fees are 200 Ksh a month per child but many do not pay. There is no feeding program.
The Pentacostal Church lets the school use their piece of land but the pupils are of various Christian denominations.
The school has a permit to operate from the Nairobi City Council.
The Centre cannot be formally registered as a school with the Ministry of Education because for that they would need at least to P1 teachers and the minimum wage for a P1 teacher isĀ 9000 Ksh per month.
They have now in grade 8 five candidates who will sit in November for their KCPE exams (end of Primary School). For their exam they can go to an exam center in Kawngware slum nearby.
Assisting with the costs of a minimal feeding program would be the top priority.
